Catastrophic Event

In case of a catastrophic event, Columbus State University (CSU)will support the continuity of its academic programs and essential operations consistent with our Course Materials to be Posted in the University Learning Management System Policy and University System of Georgia guidance. If normal instructional delivery is disrupted, CSU may implement alternative methods including, but not limited to remote or online instruction, hybrid delivery, modified academic calendars, or alternative instructional sites. Courses already designated as distance education may continue to be delivered online.

In the unlikely event that the institution is not able to continue instruction for a program or course on a permanent basis, CSU will take reasonable steps to support affected students, which may, but is not required to, include:

  • providing alternative options for instruction or services for which students paid,
  • issuing reasonable refunds compensation for undelivered education consistent with Board of Regents policy and the Higher Education Act of 1965,
  • assisting students with transfer of earned credit, and/or
  • implementing teach-out plans.

Where services cannot be delivered, CSU will provide reasonable alternatives or, where appropriate, refunds. The University determines the sufficiency of alternative offerings and refunds in its sole discretion consistent with applicable law and Board of Regents policy.

Columbus State University also maintains systems, procedures, and data-protection practices designed to preserve and maintain student academic records during disruptions to institutional operations and to ensure appropriate access to those records in the event of an extended closure under University System of Georgia guidance (Columbus State University Records Management Policy and Procedures).
